Pune Municipal Corporation to upgrade maternal healthcare in nine hospitals

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is launching a major initiative to upgrade maternal and child healthcare services across nine civic hospitals. The plan includes the installation of advanced facilities such as modular operating theaters, intensive care units (ICU), and neonatal intensive care units (NICU).

Key upgrades include a 10-bed ICU at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Bopodi and a 10-bed NICU at Kamala Nehru Hospital, which will be equipped with ventilators and CPAP machines for premature or critically ill newborns. To support these new units, the PMC intends to hire 38 specialist doctors on a contractual basis, including gynecologists, pediatricians, neonatologists, physicians, intensivists, dermatologists, and radiologists.
