Pune police file cases against dancers for unlicensed Dahi Handi performances

Police in Pune have registered multiple criminal cases against organizers and Lavani dancers for conducting unlicensed dance programs during Dahi Handi festival celebrations. Authorities had mandated that all cultural performances obtain prior police permission and that artists submit a ‘Rangbhoomi Prayog Parinirakshan Mandal’ certificate to prevent allegedly obscene performances.

In the Dhanakawadi area, cases were filed against officials from the Ashtavinayak Mitra Mandal and the Risky Boys Group. The charges involve organizing events without the required documentation. Specifically, dancers and organizers including Radha Patil, Nisha Mumbaikar, and Shubhangi Thorat were named in police complaints following the unauthorized shows.

Radha Patil has disputed the allegations, stating she believed the event was authorized because police officers were present at the venue. She also questioned the claims of obscenity regarding her performance and maintained that she had submitted relevant documentation receipts.
