Pune police officer suspended for alleged drunk driving

A 39-year-old woman police officer posted at the Kalepadal police station in Pune has been suspended following a viral video that allegedly shows her driving on the wrong side of the road while intoxicated.

The incident occurred in the Manjari area, where commuters recorded the officer driving against the flow of traffic in a vehicle that reportedly lacked a number plate. In the footage, the officer, who was wearing her uniform, allegedly acknowledged consuming alcohol when questioned by motorists.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jeevan Beniwal confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered. While authorities are investigating whether the officer attended a gathering in the Bund Garden area prior to the incident, police noted she was not officially on duty during the time of the occurrence. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact timeline and circumstances of the alleged alcohol consumption.
