Pune Road Water Jet Erupts During Pipeline Test, Raising Safety Concerns
On Saturday, a section of road in Talegaon Dabhade near Pune cracked open, sending a powerful jet of water into the air while officials were testing a newly installed underground water supply pipeline.
CCTV footage captured the fountain emerging from the centre of the road as water pressure increased. An investigation found that two pipeline sections had been improperly joined by the contractor, causing the joint to fail and the water to burst through the asphalt.
The incident halted traffic and caused panic among residents. The municipal council said the contractor will bear the cost of repairing both the pipeline and the road and promised tighter quality oversight before the scheme’s scheduled inauguration next week.
