Punjab accelerates housing loans and infrastructure deadlines
The Punjab government is implementing measures to accelerate housing and infrastructure development. Under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar interest-free housing loan programme, officials have been directed to resolve delays in releasing loan instalments. Minister Bilal Yasin emphasized the need to address delays in second instalments to ensure construction progress for beneficiaries. To date, over Rs. 264 billion has been disbursed to more than 200,000 families across the province.
Simultaneously, the Punjab Housing Department has issued a warning to officers and contractors regarding the Punjab Development Program. Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal stated that all ongoing projects must be completed to approved standards and within specific timelines, or face departmental action. Under a ‘Smart Execution Plan,’ development works are divided into three packages, each intended for completion within three months. A primary directive is to ensure all works are finished before the next monsoon season to prevent hazards caused by incomplete drainage and roadworks.
