CBI takes over investigation into anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota murder

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a probe into the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Punjab. The decision follows an announcement by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who transferred the case to the central agency to honor the demands of the victim's family for an independent investigation.

Jhota was shot dead on October 13 inside a medical store during a confrontation regarding the alleged illegal sale of addictive substances. The main accused, medical store owner Ashwani Kumar, was arrested in Salasar, Rajasthan. The CBI team arrived in Mansa on Tuesday night to collect case-related documents and evidence from local police.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Jhota's family in Mansa on Tuesday, expressing condolences and promising a thorough investigation. Shah also visited families of two other individuals—Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur and Gulzar Singh in Sangrur—who died following confrontations related to drug activities, promising CBI probes for all three cases.
