Punjab and Rajasthan implement agricultural targets for Rabi season
In Punjab, the provincial government has announced a wheat cultivation target of 16.5 million acres for the upcoming Rabi season. Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani confirmed a wheat support price of Rs4,500 per maund. To support farmers, the government has allocated Rs150 billion under the Kissan Card programme and previously disbursed Rs425 billion in interest-free loans. Additional measures include a Rs450 million subsidy for certified wheat seeds and the distribution of 45,000 subsidized tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme.
In the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, the Agriculture Department has set a total Rabi cultivation target of 3.15 lakh hectares. Mustard cultivation is prioritized, with a specific target of 1.40 lakh hectares. While farmers are preparing fields for mustard, wheat, and gram, they have expressed concerns regarding the need for regular electricity supplies to ensure timely irrigation.
