Punjab arrest exposes suspected ISI espionage network
The arrest of a couple in Punjab’s Ferozepur district has uncovered a suspected espionage network allegedly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The individuals, residing in Kalu Wala village near the India-Pakistan border, are accused of operating a honey-trap to extract sensitive information regarding military installations, movements, and deployments.
Investigations indicate that the woman involved allegedly impersonated a police officer to gain access to confidential data. Intelligence Bureau officials noted a concerning trend where espionage actors forge communication channels of high-ranking police and army officers. These channels often remain dormant while monitoring junior officers, eventually sending messages that create a sense of artificial urgency or stress. This tactic is designed to pressure lower-ranking officials into bypassing security protocols to transmit information quickly before the forged channels are shut down.
