Punjab Assembly passes resolution opposing E20 ethanol‑blended fuel policy

On 4 August, the Punjab Legislative Assembly approved a proposal rejecting the central government's push for E20 ethanol‑blended petrol. AAP ministers Mohinder Bhagat and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the blend is harming two‑ and four‑wheel vehicles and framed the move as part of a campaign launched by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and activist Manish Sisodia.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema defended the state government's stance on pending DA payments after a High Court order and used the debate to criticize internal disputes within the Congress party. The resolution was described as historic by state ministers and portrayed as opposition to the India‑US trade agreement that underpins the fuel policy.
