Punjab BJP criticizes AAP government over rising state debt

Punjab BJP President Kejri Singh Dhillon has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its economic policies and alleged financial mismanagement. Dhillon claimed that the state's debt has increased from approximately 28 lakh crore rupees before the current administration took office to nearly 45 lakh crore rupees during its four and a half years in power.

According to the BJP leader, the state is continuously taking on new debt without seeing improvements in revenue, production capacity, or infrastructure. He cited specific examples of financial strain, noting that Powercom is preparing to take a new loan of 10,000 crore rupees, following a decision by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to raise 15,000 crore rupees.

Dhillon further alleged that while the government cites financial crises to delay the rights and demands of government employees and pensioners, it continues to incur massive debt. He also noted that the fees paid to merchant bankers and financial intermediaries to arrange these loans are placing an additional burden on the state treasury.
