Punjab BJP leader Sunil Jakhar urges Canada to reconsider PGWP changes affecting Indian students

Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has warned that recent amendments to Canada’s Post‑Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) rules could force hundreds of Indian students—many from Punjab—to face deportation. He said the students enrolled under earlier regulations, invested substantial tuition and living costs, and now confront uncertainty and severe mental stress.

Jakhar called on Canadian authorities to provide a transitional arrangement for those already studying in Canada and appealed to India’s Ministry of External Affairs to raise the issue diplomatically, aiming to protect the interests of the affected Indian students.
