Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz orders crackdown on lawlessness
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued a four-week ultimatum to police officers to improve the province's law and order situation, specifically targeting crimes against women and children. During a special meeting with regional and district police officers, she warned that officials failing to show progress would be removed from their positions.
In addition to addressing violent crime, the Chief Minister directed authorities to intensify efforts against corruption within the police department and to halt wheat smuggling, particularly near provincial borders. She also ordered proactive operations against illegal weapons and mandated increased visible patrolling to deter criminal activity.
Separately, the Chief Minister addressed a recent assault at a Lahore petrol station in Jubilee Town. Following the viral circulation of CCTV footage showing a customer attacking a worker for requesting he stop smoking, police arrested the suspect. Nawaz condemned the incident, stating that wealth and political connections must not serve as shields against legal accountability.
