Punjab Chief Minister to receive UN-Habitat award in Oman

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been invited to Muscat, Oman, to receive the 2026 UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award. The recognition is for the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing programme, which provides financial support to low-income families for house construction. Official figures indicate that over Rs. 259 billion in interest-free loans have been disbursed to more than 200,000 applicants since the programme's launch in August 2024.

The award ceremony will take place on October 5 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre during the global observance of World Habitat Day. In conjunction with the ceremony, Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Planning Bilal Yasin attended a dinner in Muscat hosted by the Pakistan Social Club Oman and the Oman Pakistan Friendship Association. The event was attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Oman, Dr. Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari, and other senior embassy officials.
