Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz orders building surveys and sanitation reforms

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued several directives aimed at improving provincial infrastructure and urban hygiene. Following a review of the Punjab Development Programme (PDP), the Chief Minister ordered an immediate survey of unsafe and deteriorating buildings across the province, to be conducted after the monsoon season to mitigate public risk.

Regarding urban sanitation, the Chief Minister directed the strengthening of the Suthra Punjab initiative. Key mandates include the introduction of uniform waste management standards, such as the use of standardized dustbins in commercial areas and daily cleaning of major roads starting at 5 a.m.

To support sanitation workers, Nawaz Sharif ordered that salaries be paid by the fifth of every month and instructed that outstanding dues for contractors be cleared promptly. The directive also emphasizes door-to-door waste collection and the maintenance of cleanliness around schools, hospitals, and parks. Additionally, officials were instructed to conduct an impact study on sewerage and drainage projects to evaluate their effectiveness in various districts.
