Punjab DSP Satbir Singh Bains suspended after sanitation workers protest
Deputy Superintendent of Police Satbir Singh Bains was suspended by the Punjab Government following allegations that he used force against sanitation workers protesting in Barnala. The suspension was announced after Hardeep Singh Gill, Vice‑Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK), took suo motu cognisance of the incident and directed the state to submit a detailed factual report within seven days.
The NCSK urged a fair and transparent inquiry, calling for dialogue rather than coercion and stating that any officials found guilty should face strict legal action. The move reflects the government’s effort to address concerns over the rights and dignity of Safai Karamcharis.
