Punjab government backs Ujh River dam to protect border areas

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab is advocating for the construction of a dam on the Ujh River to protect border regions from recurring floods. A delegation including farmers met with the Governor of Punjab to discuss how seasonal flooding has hindered economic growth and development for generations in these vulnerable areas.

Proponents argue that the proposed dam project would safeguard agricultural land, protect local communities, and create opportunities for infrastructure and economic development in the border belt. Following the meeting, officials indicated plans to seek a meeting with the Union Minister for Jal Shakti to present the proposal at the central government level.
