Punjab Government launches welfare schemes and sanitation mandates

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced several initiatives aimed at social welfare and administrative efficiency in the province. Through the “Maryam Ko Bataye” program, eligible residents can access financial aid of up to Rs10,000, as well as support for medical treatments and mobility aids such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and electric bikes. As of February 2026, approximately 80,000 people have reportedly received assistance through this scheme.

Additionally, the government launched the Parwaaz Card, an interest-free financing program designed to support workers traveling for overseas employment. This scheme covers expenses such as visa processing, medical tests, and airfare, allowing beneficiaries to repay the amount through manageable installments.

Regarding labor rights and sanitation, the Chief Minister has mandated that all workers under the Suthra Punjab Program receive their salaries by the 5th of every month. She has ordered strict monitoring to prevent payment delays and directed authorities to clear contractors' outstanding dues to ensure uninterrupted sanitation services. The directive also includes orders for improved waste management, such as mandatory uniform dustbins in commercial areas and daily road cleaning starting at 5 a.m.
