Punjab, Haryana swing from 40 °C heat to heavy monsoon rains

On July 19, Bathinda in Punjab recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 °C, the hottest reading in the state, while several other cities in Punjab and Haryana reported temperatures up to four degrees above normal.

The following day, the India Meteorological Department reported rain across many districts of Punjab and Haryana, including Ambala, Rohtak, Karnal, Hoshiarpur and Mohali. Forecasts warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall through July 22, with the risk of flash floods, water‑logging and rising river levels in the region.
