Punjab housing project receives UN Scroll of Honour Award

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s housing initiative, ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’, has been selected for the United Nations Scroll of Honour Award. UN-Habitat announced the award in recognition of the programme’s success in providing safe and adequate housing to low-income families. The award will be presented during the World Habitat Day event on October 5 in Muscat, Oman.

As Pakistan’s first fully digital housing finance scheme, the programme has disbursed Rs260 billion in loans to facilitate the construction of over 200,000 houses. Approximately 125,000 families have already moved into homes built under the initiative.

In addition to housing, the Punjab government is expanding healthcare infrastructure. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced plans to establish cancer hospitals in every division of the province, with the goal of having them operational within 12 months. The government has also allocated Rs300 billion to the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme and Rs500 billion to the ‘Suthra Punjab’ initiative.
