Punjab introduces new cleaning fee collection mechanism

The Suthra Punjab Authority and the Excise and Taxation Department have signed a service-level agreement to implement a new mechanism for collecting cleaning fees across urban areas in Punjab, including Lahore. Under this agreement, the Excise Department will conduct house-to-house surveys and print cleaning bills for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. In exchange for collection services, the Excise and Taxation Department will receive a 1 percent service charge.

Residential cleaning fees will be scaled based on property size: 5-marla homes will pay 300 PKR monthly, 5-to-10-marla homes 500 PKR, 10-to-20-marla homes 1,000 PKR, 20-to-40-marla homes 2,000 PKR, and properties larger than 40 marlas 5,000 PKR monthly. Commercial units will also be charged, with rates ranging from 500 PKR for small units to 3,000 PKR for large units. This system aims to ensure uniform fee implementation and improve transparency in waste management across the province.
