Punjab launches SANGAT mental health clubs in 40 colleges

The Punjab Government has introduced SANGAT Mental Health Clubs across 40 colleges in the state to combat substance abuse and improve mental health awareness among students. Launched under the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign, the initiative is led by the Department of Higher Education in partnership with the Aditya Birla Education Trust (ABET) and its Mpower initiative.

The program aims to foster supportive campus environments where students can identify emotional distress and seek assistance without facing social stigma. During the launch at Plaksha University in Mohali, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains emphasized the importance of peer support and mentorship in helping young people make healthier life choices.

Neerja Birla, Founder and Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Education Trust, noted that the initiative addresses broader concerns regarding emotional wellbeing and the necessity of sustained preventive interventions for youth.
