Punjab National Bank employees suspended over ₹35 crore fraud in Greater Noida
Five employees at a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Greater Noida, including the branch manager, have been suspended following allegations of a massive fraud involving approximately ₹35 crore. Customers at the Sector Pi-1 branch reported that funds were withdrawn from savings accounts and fixed deposits without their authorization or consent.
Many victims are farmers who received compensation for land acquisition related to the Jewar Airport project. Notable reports include a customer whose balance dropped from ₹87–88 lakh to just ₹1 lakh, and another whose account was depleted of ₹1.18 crore from a total of ₹1.29 crore. Some account holders alleged that bank employees disabled SMS alerts to prevent them from receiving transaction notifications.
An FIR has been registered by the police, and an internal investigation is being conducted by the bank’s anti-corruption and vigilance teams. While initial reports estimate the discrepancy at ₹35 crore, some local groups, such as the Bharatiya Kisan Union, have claimed the actual amount embezzled could be significantly higher, ranging between ₹130 crore and ₹150 crore.
