Punjab, Pakistan Monsoon Rains Raise River Levels, Prompt Drainage Operations

Heavy monsoon rains across Punjab have caused river levels to rise in several major waterways, improving water availability for irrigation of crops such as rice, sugarcane, maize and vegetables. Provincial irrigation and disaster management officials are continuously monitoring hydrological stations and inspecting barrages, canals and embankments to ensure the flood protection system functions smoothly.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered all commissioners and deputy commissioners to stay on high alert, deploy Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) machinery, and accelerate drainage of rainwater to prevent urban flooding. Field teams quickly cleared accumulated water in districts including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin, restoring normal traffic flow and reducing inconvenience for residents.
