Punjab Police anti‑gangster raids arrest over 400 suspects in latest operation
The Punjab Police, working with the Anti‑Gangster Task Force (AGTF), continued its "Gangstran Te Vaar" anti‑gangster campaign. On the 172nd day of the operation (July 11, 2026) police carried out 661 raids across the state and arrested 417 individuals, raising the total number of arrests since the campaign began on 20 January 2026 to 46,774. Earlier, on day 169 (July 9, 2026), 705 raids resulted in 423 arrests and brought the cumulative total to 45,686.
The same police effort also targeted drug trafficking. In the latest drug‑related actions, 126 drug smugglers were arrested and authorities seized 987 g of heroin, 10 kg of poppy husk, 1,477 intoxicant pills and approximately ₹3,500 in cash. The overall drug‑smuggling arrests have reached 73,302 over 497 days of the parallel "Yudh Nashian Virudh" drive.
The campaign is coordinated by Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, with a public helpline (93946‑93946) encouraging citizen tips.
