Punjab Police arrest 35 in inter-state pharmacy exam cheating racket

Punjab Police have dismantled an inter-state cheating racket targeting the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) pharmacy examinations. Following intelligence reports, authorities raided a makeshift control room in Faridkot, arresting 35 individuals.

Investigators found that the network utilized sophisticated technology to facilitate malpractice, including modified Kechaoda K33 mobile phones converted into communication devices, wireless transmitters, Bluetooth earpieces, and spy cameras. Police recovered 38 modified phones, 21 concealed earpieces, and two vehicles used in the operation. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated the incident was a technology-driven cheating network rather than a paper leak and emphasized that the government is exploring blockchain technology to secure future examinations.

Separately, BFUHS has issued updates regarding the NEET UG 2026 counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions. The university has restored the Punjab State Quota candidature for four students who were previously debarred after verification of their records. Additionally, the university confirmed that the Sports Category merit list provided by the Punjab Sports Department will be utilized for seat allotment in the second round of counselling.
