Manjit Singh Bedi arrested in India by Punjab Police
Manjit Singh Bedi, an Indian-born U.S. citizen and one of the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters, has been arrested by the Jalandhar Police in Punjab, India. Bedi is accused of orchestrating a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud scheme that defrauded the U.S. government of at least $600,000 between March 2024 and June 2025.
Investigators allege that Bedi operated the Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, Washington, where he used customers’ Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to process transactions for cash instead of food, allegedly keeping approximately half of the proceeds for himself. After being indicted on wire fraud and SNAP fraud charges, Bedi was ordered to surrender his passport and remain in Washington state. However, authorities state he violated these conditions by crossing the border into Canada before fleeing to India.
Bedi’s arrest marks the fifth capture under the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters initiative, which was launched in June. FBI Director Kash Patel noted that the five fugitives captured so far are collectively accused of more than $2 billion in fraud and had spent a combined total of nearly 4,000 days on the run. The FBI is currently working with Indian authorities to secure Bedi’s extradition to the United States to face charges.
