Punjab police arrest ISI-linked suspect and other terror plotters

Amritsar police carried out a series of arrests targeting suspected terrorist networks. In one operation, 24‑year‑old Sumeet Kumar, also known as Pandit, was seized with a hand grenade, a 9 mm Glock pistol, four live cartridges and a motorcycle after intelligence indicated he was receiving instructions from Pakistan's ISI to target police stations and public places. The Directorate General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, said the suspect had been in contact with ISI handlers via Instagram.

In a separate confrontation, Gurla Singh was apprehended after a police cordon around the village of Pandori Varich. Singh had demanded a 30 lakh rupee ransom and was linked to a petrol‑bomb attack. During the encounter he opened fire, was wounded in the leg and was taken into custody; an illegal pistol was recovered from his possession. Both incidents are being investigated for links to broader organised crime or terrorist networks.

Authorities have seized weapons and ammunition and are continuing inquiries to determine whether the arrested individuals are part of larger illicit groups operating in the state.
