Punjab police arrest suspect in petrol‑bomb attack demanding ₹30 lakh ransom

Amritsar rural police arrested Gurla Singh, the main accused in a petrol‑bomb blast in the village of Pandori Varach, after a police confrontation. The suspect had demanded a ransom of ₹30 lakh. When officers moved to block his escape, he opened fire; police returned fire, wounding him in the foot and taking him into custody on the spot.

A search of Singh’s belongings yielded an illegal pistol. The police are probing whether he is linked to a broader organised‑crime network that previously supplied illegal weapons and explosives in the Amritsar district. The case has been registered under the Arms Act and the Explosives Act, and the investigation continues.
