Punjab police bust heroin trafficking network in Amritsar, arrest three suspects

Punjab police’s Counter‑Intelligence team in Amritsar dismantled a heroin‑smuggling network, arresting three suspects – Akashdeep Singh, Mangil Singh and Baljeet Singh. The operation seized more than 20 kg of heroin, including 13 kg recovered from a residence and a further 5 kg found in a Volkswagen van stopped on the Amritsar‑Jalandhar highway; one report cites a total of 25 kg seized.

The seized drugs were reported to be destined for distribution across Punjab. Police have launched further investigations to identify additional members of the supply chain and have filed First Information Reports under the NDPS Act. The authorities said the network operated on instructions from a cross‑border trafficker and indicated a continued campaign against drug trafficking in the state.
