Punjab police intensify crackdown on drug trafficking networks

Police in Punjab are intensifying their efforts to dismantle drug networks through the ongoing 'Yudh Nashean Virudh' (War Against Drugs) campaign. In a recent operation marking the 524th day of the campaign, authorities arrested 94 smugglers and seized 23.5 kg of heroin, 970 grams of ICE, 11 kg of poppy husk, and 370 intoxicant pills.

In Jalandhar, the Commissionerate Police reported significant progress over a seven-month period, registering 1,201 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. During this time, 1,440 individuals were arrested for drug trafficking. Seizures included 16.81 kg of heroin, 9.274 kg of opium, 24.624 kg of ganja, 33.750 kg of poppy husk, and various other narcotics, along with over ₹11 lakh in suspected drug proceeds.

The crackdown also targets the infrastructure of organized crime. In Jalandhar, police recovered 51 illegal pistols and 133 live cartridges under the 'Gangstran Te Vaar' initiative. Authorities are utilizing modern policing strategies, including CCTV networks, forensic labs, and increased patrol units, to disrupt both the supply of narcotics and the illegal weapons used by criminal syndicates.
