Punjab Police has successfully extradited Amritpal Singh, also known as Amrit Dalam, from the Republic of Moldova to India. Singh, a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, was apprehended by Moldovan authorities on February 24, 2026, while attempting to cross the Otaci border into Ukraine.

The extradition was the culmination of ‘Operation Eastern Reach,’ a six-month intelligence-led international manhunt. This operation involved close coordination between the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC), central agencies, and international partners, including authorities in Moldova and Azerbaijan.

Singh is wanted in India for 21 criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and violations of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He had originally fled India in October 2024 using a forged passport under the name Gurpal Singh.

This marks the first time Punjab Police has secured an extradition from a European nation. A four-member police team took Singh into custody at Chisinau Airport on September 11 and arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on September 12 to face legal proceedings in Punjab.
