Punjab political landscape shifts as BJP rejects SAD alliance
Political activity is intensifying in Punjab ahead of upcoming assembly elections. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has dismissed rumors regarding a potential alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Speaking in Tanda, Saini stated that the BJP intends to win the state based on its own strength and direct support from the people rather than relying on another party. He emphasized that the party's true alliance is with the citizens of Punjab.
Saini also criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of failing to address the drug crisis and failing to fulfill campaign promises regarding employment and Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantees. He linked the availability of drugs to rising crime and gang violence in the region.
Separately, former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh expressed dissatisfaction with his current standing within the party. While clarifying that he has no intention of leaving the BJP or returning to the Congress party, Singh noted that despite 60 years of political experience, he feels his advice is increasingly ignored by current leadership. He also commented on the detention of MP Amritpal Singh, suggesting that prolonged incarceration can sometimes increase political sympathy among certain communities.
