Punjab political leaders demand wider CBI probe into activist murder

Political leaders in Punjab are calling for an expanded investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota.

Former BJP chief Sunil Jakhar has urged the CBI to examine the role of drug inspectors to ensure a fair probe, suggesting that investigating regulatory officials could reveal significant information. Jakhar also criticized the Bhagwant Mann administration for failing to address the growing drug crisis and the safety of those fighting against it.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal has accused the state government of harassing Jhota’s family. Badal alleged that the activist’s widow and father have been summoned to meetings with individuals allegedly linked to the murder. Jhota’s father has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and justice for his son.
