Punjab Regions Deploy Drones for Flood Alerts, Expand Canal Water Supply

The provincial government of Pakistan's Punjab has introduced a drone‑based monitoring system to track water levels at barrages, rivers and headworks, aiming to provide early flood warnings during the monsoon season. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the real‑time data will help disaster‑management authorities issue timely alerts and improve emergency response, while also addressing safety hazards such as exposed power lines.

Meanwhile, the Indian state of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, announced the extension of canal water to farms through new pipeline networks. The initiative is intended to deliver reliable irrigation, reduce groundwater depletion and support sustainable agriculture, with farmers praising the move alongside promises of free electricity for the sector.

Both measures reflect regional governments’ efforts to bolster water‑resource management and protect residents from climate‑related risks.
