Punjab regions report improved road safety and reduced fatalities
Road safety initiatives in the Punjab regions of Pakistan and India have led to measurable improvements in traffic safety and accident response.
In Pakistan, the Punjab Traffic Police reported a 34% decline in fatal road accidents across 26 districts this year. Districts such as Khushab, Murree, and Muzaffargarh saw a 100% reduction in fatal crashes. Officials attributed these results to strict enforcement of traffic laws, public awareness campaigns, and the integration of technology, including modern traffic cameras and e-challan systems.
In India, the Punjab government has strengthened its road safety framework through the Sadak Suraksha Force. The force is mandated to reach accident sites within a five-minute window to provide prompt medical assistance. To ensure transparency and accountability, vehicles used by the force are equipped with cameras and video-recording systems. The initiative has also focused on increasing women's participation in enforcement roles.
