Punjab reports 27 stubble burning incidents via satellite monitoring

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has released an Action Taken Report regarding stubble burning incidents in Punjab. Based on data up to September 24, 2024, a total of 27 incidents of crop residue burning were recorded across the state using ISRO satellite monitoring protocols.

Of these 27 recorded incidents, 21 fields were inspected on-site, confirming 10 cases of burning. The report indicates that environmental compensation has been imposed in seven cases, totaling 35,000 rupees, of which 10,000 rupees has been collected so far.

Regional breakdowns show that Amritsar recorded the highest number of incidents with 13 cases, while Ferozepur recorded four. In Patiala, one case was confirmed, resulting in a 5,000 rupee fine, though the report notes that no recovery has been made in that specific instance and no FIR has been filed.
