Punjab schools to reopen August 24 after summer break

Schools across Punjab are scheduled to reopen on August 24 following a three-month summer break. While the reopening date is confirmed, the School Education Department has not yet issued a final notification regarding official school timings.

Proposed schedules suggest that single-shift schools may operate from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with shorter hours on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For double-shift institutions, the first shift is expected to run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while the second shift would run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In preparation for the upcoming smog season, the Punjab government has also directed schools to implement the Pre-Smog Action Plan 2026. This includes limiting outdoor activities and assessing the Air Quality Index before allowing physical training or exercise to protect students from air pollution.
