Petroperú Puerto Maldonado Contraloría infrastructure deterioration public investment

The Comptroller General of the Republic has issued warnings regarding the deterioration of a Petroperú sales plant project in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios. The project, which has seen an investment of over S/ 67.5 million, is currently paralyzed.

Auditors reported that the site suffers from a lack of maintenance, with vegetation covering internal roads and administrative offices. Additionally, water drainage structures show signs of oxidation, and the electrical substation has experienced water leaks and fire damage to its concrete walls and plywood doors. The suspension of work in December 2022 and the subsequent contract resolution in August 2025 have placed these invested resources at risk.

Other regional infrastructure projects in Peru are also under scrutiny. In Puno, the construction of the Lucio Aldazabal Paucar Hospital is progressing slowly at 24% physical completion, while the Checca–Mazocruz road project remains paralyzed. In Ayacucho, irregularities were detected in the Limonchayocc–Granja Sivia road project, including discrepancies in material volumes and personnel counts.
