Puno municipality expands security force to 130 for national holiday celebrations
The Provincial Municipality of Puno increased its municipal security personnel to a total of 130 officers ahead of the 205th independence anniversary and the extended public holiday. More than 50 new agents were added since March, supplementing the existing 80, to strengthen patrols in the city and surrounding communities. The expansion includes motorized units and vehicles and works in coordination with the National Police, neighborhood committees and rural patrols. Municipal Environment Manager Tomás Mamani Calixto emphasized decentralising patrols, recommending residents secure their homes and avoid leaving vehicles on the street during the festivities.
The move follows earlier technical problems with city surveillance cameras that limited monitoring coverage. Authorities aim to deter crime and ensure safety for both locals and visitors during the holiday period.
