Puno political candidates face scrutiny over election deals and anti-corruption plans
In Puno, political figures associated with regional governor Richard Hancco Soncco have been accused of negotiating electoral support with Eduardo Quispe Pandia, a candidate for the regional government from the Ahora Nación party. Reports indicate a meeting took place in Juliaca involving several of Hancco’s close associates, including Bruce Lee Orestes Ticona Mamani, a former consultant whose professional credentials and appointments have previously faced scrutiny.
Separately, Efraín Sulca, the Ahora Nación candidate for the provincial mayoralty of Puno, has proposed implementing the ISO 37001 anti-bribery management system to combat corruption. While Sulca presented the measure as a way to achieve a ‘clean government,’ he has not yet provided specific details regarding the budget, implementation timeline, or the specific municipal departments responsible for the rollout. Experts note that while the ISO standard helps manage bribery risks, it does not serve as a total guarantee against corruption.
