Puno protest victims warn of judicial delays

The Association of Victims of January 9 has raised concerns regarding the legal proceedings following the deadly protests in Puno. Raúl Samillán Sanga, president of the association, stated that investigations nearing oral trials are being jeopardized by changes in prosecutorial teams and new legislative measures.

Specifically, the association highlighted the Carabaya case, where the removal of assistant prosecutors has allegedly delayed the investigation into the deaths of two community members. The group also criticized Law 32735, arguing it allows investigations to be transferred from common jurisdiction to military jurisdiction, potentially obstructing justice.

The association has set conditions for any potential dialogue with Keiko Fujimori, demanding the repeal of laws they believe hinder the determination of responsibility for the deaths recorded during the protests.
