Puno pushes gastronomic tourism with festivals and traditional drink showcases

The Andean region of Puno is promoting gastronomic tourism by turning festivals and local eateries into showcases for traditional beverages. Organizer Briseida Pauro Pino said the goal is to exploit the region’s products and diversify the tourism offer. The commercial thoroughfare Jirón Lima is highlighted as an emblematic space for restaurants, bars and pizzerías to display their drinks.

A recent gastronomic festival held during the Fiestas Patrias, along with other contests during Puno’s celebrations, featured a Café representative at the Peru Mucho Gusto fair in Tacna. Chefs such as the one from the cevichería Mareas have represented the region at international food fairs, strengthening Puno’s commercial image. The city, which previously hosted Peru Mucho Gusto, hopes the event will return to further boost local tourism and create new commercial opportunities for producers.
