Puno sicuri ensembles to compete in regional qualifying contest

More than 90 sicuri ensembles are expected to compete in the XLIX Regional Qualifying Contest in Puno, a preparatory event for the Festividad Virgen de la Candelaria 2027. The competition will feature various categories, including single-drum, multi-drum, and ayarachis ensembles, as well as groups performing in traditional costumes and original dances.

Alexander Quispe Huaracha, president of the Regional Federation of Folklore and Culture of Puno, stated that the contest aims to preserve the musical and cultural authenticity of the region. Groups from provinces such as Moho, Huancané, Conima, and Yunguyo are expected to participate, maintaining the unique identities and traditional attire of their respective communities.

To ensure technical accuracy, musical directors will be involved in the organizational process and decision-making. A meeting scheduled for September 12 will bring together presidents, delegates, and musical directors to establish qualification parameters and define the number of qualifying groups.
