Punt voor Parkinson opens specialized care center in Meppel and Zwolle
Zorggroep Noorderboog and Isala have opened the ‘Punt voor Parkinson’ Meppel/Zwolle, a regional expertise center for Parkinson's care. Located at Reestdal Revalidatie in Meppel, the center serves approximately 2,500 people in the region.
The facility brings together neurologists, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, and other experts to coordinate treatment and guidance. The center offers outpatient care, day treatment, and short-term admissions in Meppel, with an outpatient dependency in Zwolle. It also collaborates with the Zonnekamp nursing home in Steenwijk.
This integrated approach aims to address the rising number of Parkinson's patients due to an aging population. Research indicates that such specialized, coordinated care can lead to fewer hospital admissions and GP visits, potentially allowing 75% of patients to live independently at home for an average of 4.5 years longer.
