Punta Arenas to reopen municipal housing entity and distribute community subsidies
The Municipality of Punta Arenas has announced the reopening of its Municipal Sponsoring Entity (EP) starting October 1. This initiative aims to provide technical management and support for housing projects for local families who have faced delays in their applications in recent years.
Mayor Claudio Radonich stated that the decision follows coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu). The new management seeks to apply traditional DS-49 decree criteria, including reserving 30% of slots for the middle class and prioritizing individual housing developments. Regional Councilor Roxana Gallardo noted that the move aims to eliminate local administrative requirements that have slowed collective application processes.
In a separate community support measure, the municipality distributed over $9.7 million in subsidies to 11 local community groups. These funds are intended to support various social, cultural, and health-related activities within the community, contributing to a total of 112 subsidies granted by the municipality this year.
