Punta Arenas begins $25 million Ruta 9 infrastructure project

Infrastructure improvements are underway for Ruta 9 in Punta Arenas, Chile, connecting the Industrial District to the Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Airport. The project involves a $25 million investment to upgrade approximately 12 kilometers of the strategic route. Key works include the installation of 453 lighting poles and 673 high-efficiency LED luminaries, concrete paving for 11 kilometers of service roads, and the renewal of signage, markings, and containment barriers.

In a meeting between Punta Arenas Mayor Claudio Radonich and Biminister Louis de Grange, additional connectivity priorities were discussed. These include the recovery of the Zenteno Bridge, the development of a dual carriageway to the southern sector, and solutions for high-risk intersections. The discussions also covered airport infrastructure, with the Mayor proposing a reevaluation of the airport expansion project to better support its role as a gateway to Antarctica, and exploring direct flight connections to other Chilean cities.
