Punta Arenas hosts 2026 Winter Carnival awards ceremony

The Municipality of Punta Arenas held the official awards ceremony for the 2026 Winter Carnival, marking the 30th anniversary of the event. The celebration featured 64 allegories across various categories, including floats, troupes, murgas, batucadas, and costumes, along with six guest delegations.

Asmar Magallanes emerged as a major winner, securing first place in the Carro Alegórico A, Comparsa, and Murga categories, as well as second place in the Costume category. Other top honors included Kilómetro 100 Sentimiento Campero for Carro Alegórico B, Sakumba Austral for Batucada, and Janet Valdés Cárcamo for Costume.

Mayor Claudio Radonich noted that the event reached a national and international audience through broadcasts on more than 21 television channels and digital platforms. Participants highlighted that the economic prizes serve as essential support for the logistics, costumes, and ornamentation required to maintain Patagonian traditions throughout the year.
