Punta Arenas man imprisoned for theft from vacant home

Ramón Alejandro Low Low has been detained and sent to prison in Punta Arenas to serve a 300-day sentence for simple theft. Low Low was apprehended by Carabineros in public after failing to voluntarily report to serve his sentence following a conviction by the Punta Arenas Oral Criminal Court.

The theft occurred in October 2025 at an uninhabited residence on Fanny Proust passage, a property that had been vacant following a previous fire. Low Low entered the premises to steal various items, including liquor, perfumes, and an Alexa digital device. While prosecutors initially pursued charges of robbery in an inhabited place, the court reclassified the offense to simple theft after determining the door's security had not been forcibly cut.

Judges denied the possibility of a suspended sentence due to the risk of recidivism and a lack of social ties. A co-defendant, Hugo Andrés Low Pérez, was also recently detained and remains in custody awaiting trial.
