Punta Bergantín project to invest $175 million in Puerto Plata

The first phase of the Punta Bergantín tourism project in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, involves an investment of $175 million. According to executive director Andrés Marranzini, this stage includes the development of the Meliá Bergantín Beach hotel, a golf course, and a clubhouse, which are expected to begin operations during the 2028 high season.

The development aims to add approximately 2,000 hotel rooms and attract an additional 400,000 tourists to the province. The project operates under a public-private partnership model. To date, over $56 million has been spent on preparatory phases, including technical studies and basic infrastructure such as water networks, electrical grids, and access roads.

While environmental and municipal licenses have been secured, final technical procedures are being processed with the Ministry of Housing, Habitat, and Buildings to begin the construction of the main structures.
