Punta Cana Airport to receive new landing system

The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) has announced a modernization program for the country's air navigation systems. A key component of this plan is the installation of a new Instrument Landing System (ILS-DME) at Punta Cana International Airport. This system is designed to provide precise references for aircraft during approach and landing, particularly in conditions of low visibility, to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

IDAC has allocated 150 million pesos for the supply, installation, and operation of the ILS-DME at Punta Cana. A similar system is also planned for Las Américas International Airport (AILA).

Further upgrades to air surveillance are scheduled, including the installation of primary radar, secondary radar, and ADS-B technology at Cibao International Airport by February 2027. Additionally, modernization efforts will extend to the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata.
