Punta Cana hosts basketball and golf tournaments boosting youth and community projects

The Verón‑Punta Cana Basketball Tournament (TBS) kicked off on June 20 at the multi‑use arena in Verón, featuring six local teams – Team Amaury, Spartans, Nuevo Orden Punta Cana, Los Guerreros, Bávaro Army and Las Panthers. Organized by the Academia Deportiva Moisés Sarmiento with support from the provincial basketball association and the municipal sports office, the event aims to strengthen local basketball, offer disciplined recreation for young athletes and foster community pride.

Meanwhile, the third iQtek Pro‑Am Golf Tournament at Corales Golf Course raised RD$6.5 million for social causes. RD$4.5 million will fund the Fundación Yo También Puedo’s programs for people with disabilities, while RD$2 million supports iQ Academy’s technology training for vulnerable youth. The two‑day competition attracted 18 professional golfers from eight countries and highlighted the role of sport in philanthropy and education in the Dominican Republic.
